I Want My Facial Features to Look More Feminine
If your gender identity does not match the sex and gender you were assigned at birth, you may be considering undergoing gender-confirmation surgery. In many cases, part of male-to-female gender-confirmation surgery is making your facial features more feminine.
Medications, creams, lotions, serums, makeup, and similar products can only do so much to help feminize your facial features, but these are just temporary fixes and are not permanent.
However, there is a type of plastic surgery that you can get done to help permanently make your facial features look more feminine. The surgical procedures used to make one’s features look more feminine are known as facial-feminisation surgeries.
Facial-feminisation surgery, or FFS, is an umbrella term for a set of surgical procedures used to make alterations to traditionally masculine facial features so that they look similar in shape and size to traditionally more feminine facial features. FFS is commonly performed for transgender women and non-binary trans people.
What Is the Goal of Facial-Feminisation Surgery?
The characteristics of various facial features are seen as more traditionally masculine or feminine. These include the shape of the cheeks, forehead, lips, chin, jawline, and nose. The goal of FFS is to soften masculine features to make them more aesthetically appealing and look more typically recognizable as feminine facial features.
The facial features of the first three-fourths of the face make the most difference in terms of overall appearance. Making subtle changes to the lips can also leave a strong impact on the look of the face, making it appear more feminine.
What Types of Procedures Are Typically Involved?
There are a number of cosmetic procedures or surgeries that are to be performed in conjunction with an FFS to achieve the overall look of the procedure. FFS is customized or tailored to each individual’s needs and can alter almost every part, feature, and aspect of the face.
To adjust facial features, FFS can involve soft-tissue and bony procedures such as a brow lift, rhinoplasty, cheek augmentation with implants, and lip augmentation.
FFS mostly concentrates on the facial bone structure and the shape of the nose. It can also incorporate some soft-tissue work, such as a facelift and a neck lift, when it is necessary to enhance the results of the FFS.
Forehead procedures are used to frame, align, and recontour the forehead by smoothing away harsh lines. It also helps to reduce the prominence of the forehead bone.
Hairline alterations help to counteract a receding hairline or combat baldness.
